Why am I getting “tar” errors during a restore?

During a restore of files on my Linux system I get the following errors:

tar: /home/user/foo: invalid sparse archive member
tar: Skipping to next header
tar: Archive contains obsolescent base-64 headers

tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors

The restore failed on XXXXXX.

How can I get the files from my backup that the software cannot read?

ANSWER

On Linux, SBAdmin utilizes the client system “tar” command in part when archiving files included to include in a backup. SBAdmin will also use the “tar” command to restore data from a backup.

The GNU version of “tar”, which is supplied on most Linux distributions has a bug in versions prior to 1.14.91. The bug is located in the algorithm of recognizing sparse archive members. It is fixed as of version 1.14.91.

Storix recommends you update to the latest version.
