Why are devices named ethX rather than pXpX or emX after a Linux system recovery?

With some hardware, Redhat 6 and newer versions of Fedora use the “biosdevname” command for consistent naming of the network devices. When performing a system recovery, SBAdmin does not assume the same hardware will be used, and therefore uses the ethX naming convention for ethernet devices.

To prevent SBAdmin from using kernel naming conventions, remove the file /etc/udev/rules.d/99-storix-network.rules. Upon reboot, devices will use “biosdevname” rules. You will also need to update any network configuration files for the new device names.
